Thank you for considering participating in this research study. This information sheet outlines the purpose of the study and provides a description of your involvement and rights as a participant, if you agree to take part. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. You do not have to take part if you do not want to. The aim of this study is to collect authentic examples of user interaction within an online programming environment.
Participation does not require any additional action beyond your usual use of the system. During the study, your interactions with the online programming environment will be automatically logged throughout the winter semester of 2025/26. You can withdraw from the study at any point during the winter semester of 2025/26 and latest by March 31 2026, without having to give a reason. Withdrawing from the study will have no effect on you. If you withdraw from the study, we will not retain the information you have given thus far.
We will use the collected information solely for research purposes in the field of computational methods in modelling and analysis of learning processes. During the data collection phase, a reference to each participant will be maintained in order to enable potential withdrawal with data removal. Once the data collection phase is complete, the data will be pseudonymised during pre-processing and then fully anonymised.
All digital files, transcripts, and summaries will be given codes and stored separately from any names or other direct identification of participants. Any hard copies of research information will be kept in locked files at all times. Original data will be destroyed after it has served its initial purpose.
Only the anonymised dataset will be used for analysis and publication. The anonymized data will also be shared via GDPR compliant open data repositories (e.g. Zenodo) to promote transparency, and collaboration.
